KAMEDA HACHIMANGU SHRINE<\/p>\n
According to the archives of the shrine,Kameda Hachimangu Shrine dates back to 1390 when it was dedicated to the spirit of Hachiman Okami \uff08The Emperor Ojin\uff09 from the mother Kehi Shrine in Tsuruga Echizen.\uff08Fukui Prefecture\uff09 It is said that the main shrine and the hall of worship were built in 1603.
\nIn the 17th century the area around the mouth of Kameda River became the center of this district and shrines and temples were built.The Munefuda \uff08a wooden plate on which the name of the deity and the date of the foundation are written\uff09 of 1674 is still kept in Kameda Hachimangu Shrine.
\nThe present shrine was built in 1954.The former one which stands next to it was renovated in 1863 and is one of the oldest wooden buildings in Hakodate.This former shrine is still used to house a portable shrine.You can find some bullet marks on the building made during the Hakodate Battle.
\nThe first Torii was dedicated in 1874 by Kudo Mogoro who was the last Hakodate Bugyo in the Matsumae clan.<\/p>\n
