HIYORI ZAKA SLOPE (”Hiyori” means”Weather”)
From the top of the slope, one can command a sweeping view of the port,so this was an excellent spot for weather observation. That is why this slope was called “Hiyori Zaka.” Likewise, many kites could often be seen from Funadama Jinja Shrine, which is located at the top of the slope. The upper part of the slope was called “Tobi (meaning the bird “Kite”) Zaka”.Both words,Hiyori and Tobi are closely related with weather.
