CHACHANOBORI SLOPE
The name of this slope is one of few in Hakodate which is derived from the Ainu language. It was probably named in the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate. “Chacha” in Ainu means an aged man.Since this slope is very steep, those who ascend the slope looked like an old man with a stoop. This gives us an image of an aged person. So the slope was named duly.
